About this artwork: “Zara” is a digital artwork that features the surreal portrait of a woman in a rococo silver frame underwater. The woman’s face is positioned at the bottom of the frame, while her long, flowing hair occupies the upper portion of the frame. She seems to be looking out of the frame with big blue eyes, which maybe speak of fear and bewilderment.
Adding to the ethereal quality, hands seemingly emerge from nowhere, grasping the edges of the frame. Red roses adorn the figure’s brownish hair, while butterflies rest on the frame, and aquatic creatures, including fish and jellyfish, drift around her, further enhancing the surreal atmosphere of the piece.
“Zara” features a low-key color palette dominated by blue, turquoise, cyan and green. With its surreal elements and delicate, submerged figure, it tells a story of isolation, entrapment, introspection, and transformation.
