There’s a myriad of WordPress themes available, which makes is hard to choose the best theme for your art niche and business model—even more so if you have never dealt with WordPress before.

To sell your artwork through your own web store, it’s important to choose a WordPress theme that is suitable for eCommerce. Not all WordPress themes are.

I’m a digital artist and photographer myself, and I’ve built my entire website on WordPress (the one you are on right now).

Do you like this website? You can have one similar to mine!

I am building my website on WordPress using the OceanWP theme & Elementor page builder and hosting it on Hostinger!

Here I show you how to create an artist website with WordPress in 5 easy steps.

The biggest mistake that I see fellow artists make is choosing a WordPress theme that is not optimized for eCommerce, is not compatible with common plugins, and is not supported and regularly updated by the developer.

Visual appeal is crucial—especially for an art website. However, if you just base your choice on the looks, your WordPress theme may be sufficient to showcase your portfolio and start an art blog, but you might not be able to sell your work.

In this post, I've sorted out the 12 best WordPress themes for selling art. They do not only look good, but are also fully eCommerce-capable to help you turn your passion into profit!

Is WordPress good for art portfolios?

If you want to display your art portfolio online, WordPress is the way to go.

If you want to open your own art store in the future, it’s an advantage to have an eCommerce WordPress theme—it simply saves you the hassle of switching themes at a later point in time.

Is it profitable to sell art on WordPress?

Selling your art on WordPress can definitely be profitable, because—as I said above—you can sell at your own conditions and you don’t have to share your profit with anybody!

That being said, selling art on WordPress is without doubt the most profitable way of selling, because there is no third party that takes a commission, monthly subscription, or listing fee.

All you need to pay for is a domain name and hosting, which you can get for a couple of dollars per month. I recommend using Hostinger. They are fast, reliable and very affordable. I myself have my website hosted on Hostinger, too.

That being said, how much profit you make selling art on WordPress totally depends on you. You’ll need to actively promote your work and drive traffic to your website.

The list includes something for every budget. There are both free and paid WordPress themes, as well as some freemium options.

That being said, let’s jump in:

    Astra

Astra is a market-leading WordPress theme with over a million active users and a 5-star rating
on WordPress.org. It’s lightweight and fast-loading, making it both user- and SEO-friendly.

With a complete range of eCommerce features, Astra is the go-to theme for entrepreneurs of all types. Astra is not only one of the best WordPress themes for selling art, you can practically sell anything.

The theme supports full WooCommerce integration for physical and digital product sales. If your focus is on selling digital products, you can install a plugin like Easy Digital Downloads. Learning Management System (LMS) plugins for online courses, e.g. LearnDash, LifterLMS, LearnPress, also work perfectly with the theme.

What’s more, Astra is compatible with all major WordPress page builders, including ElementorBeaver BuilderVisual ComposerDivi, etc. that allow you to customize your site down to the T.

Astra offers both a free and premium version. The free version includes all the basic features, while the Pro version unlocks advanced options, premium templates, and white-label capabilities. Pricing for the Pro version starts at US$49 per year.

There are plenty of premade Astra templates for various eCommerce niches and industries. I recommend checking out the following two templates. Why? Because they are not only beautifully designed with artists in mind, but they also come ready-made with a fully functional online shop!

    1. Painter Artist

Painter Artist is one of Astra’s WordPress themes perfect for showcasing and selling your artwork. In addition to the about and portfolio pages, there is a dedicated section for highlighting your upcoming exhibitions.

The home page greets visitors with a large hero image showcasing your best work, which can be paired with the story behind the piece, your artist name and creative style.

With WooCommerce already integrated, the pre-built shop includes sample products that you can easily customize. The theme’s minimalist design ensures a clean, distraction-free experience, making it easy for visitors to navigate your art website.

    2. Fashion Designer

Fashion Designer is one of Astra’s best WordPress themes for selling art. Its focus is clearly on eCommerce and it comes with everything you need for a working online shop out of the box.

The template has a clean design and soft colors (that you can customize to your liking). There’s a huge hero image at the top of home page that you can replace with your best artwork. A call to action right next to it leads your visitors directly to your web shop. Below is enough space to display your most popular works and recent pieces.

The shop itself is grouped into categories and complete with price filter, related products, cross-sales, upsales, and so on. It’s perfectly ready to function—all you need to do is fill it with your own products!

The pre-designed ‘Collections’ page comes with beautiful parallax effects that you can use to display your portfolio or talk about upcoming exhibitions. Another plus: there is a placeholder for your artist logo and shop notice at top of the website.

    OceanWP

OceanWP is a highly versatile WordPress theme that has been downloaded millions of times and boasts excellent ratings on WordPress.org. I personally use OceanWP for my own artist website—and I’m loving it.

The theme is highly customizable, offering numerous options to design your site. It is SEO-optimized, fully responsive, and compatible with WooCommerce and LMS plugins (that’s how I’m able to provide e-learning courses on my website). Additionally, it works seamlessly with all popular page builders, such as Elementor (I’m using it), Beaver Buider, and WPBakery

OceanWP provides many ready-made demos that you can install at one click of the mouse. These demos come with all the essential pages for your artist website, including a portfolio page, about and contact pages, shop, blog, and more. There’s even an OceanWP portfolio extension that allows you to create a stunning gallery to showcase your artwork.

Just for the record: I’ve built my website from scratch, using Elementor, without any template. You can do that too, but it requires more effort than simply importing one of the templates below.

If you’re interested in learning more about this theme, check out my detailed OceanWP WordPress Theme Review For Artists.

    3. Picture

Picture is one of OceanWP’s eCommerce templates specifically designed for visual artists. It comes pre-packed with all essential pages your eCommerce website could need.

The home page layout makes sure that you leave the best first impression: it allows you to display your most recent works for sale and say a blurb about it, so people know immediately what your art is about.

Apart from your offerings, the home page also includes a section for your latest blog posts that people can click and directly start reading the post. That being said, you will be delighted to hear that you get a complete pre-designed blog with individual blog post templates that you can start filling with your own content right away. After all, we all know that blogging is good for artists! ʕᴖᴥᴖʔ

Additionally, the template even features a dedicated gallery page with lightbox capability that allows people to scroll through your artwork in full size.

Needless to say that you’ll get a fully functional shop out of the box, including individual product pages with linked related products and space for reviews.

Another bonus for all artists wanting to sell their art on WordPress: you can customize all WooCommerce pages directly from the theme Customizer to make them match your artist brand!

    4. Camera

Camera is another top eCommerce template for creating your own art shop. Just like the previous one, OceanWP designed this theme with visual artists in mind. There’s ample space to display your artwork for sale on the front page, as well as customer testimonials and your recent blog posts.

Speaking of blog posts, you’ll also get a pre-designed blog with everything you need to start blogging about your art.

The shop is complete with different product categories that are also linked in the footer menu, product filters, and different display options (grid and list view). A top bar allows you to display your social media channels and a shop notice, which could be something like a discount code to entice art lovers to buy your work.

Customers find a link to the account they can create during checkout in the main menu for quick access, and the site is even ready for membership sign-ups!

The only thing that’s missing is a dedicated gallery page. However, with so much opportunity to display your product range, you might not even need one. In case you wish to showcase your portfolio on a separate page, you can simply create your own gallery or import one of the premaide galley building blocks with Elementor’s pro version.

    Divi

Divi is another top contender among the best WordPress themes for selling art. The theme is developed and maintained by Elegant Themes, a prominent name in the WordPress community.

Like all the themes on this list, Divi allows you to create any type of website without needing to know how to code. Naturally, all Divi themes are fully responsive, SEO-friendly, highly customizable, and ready to use right out of the box.

Divi is a premium theme that comes with an annual—but very affordable—license fee. The subscription gives you access to pro features and the developer’s entire range of products. One thing to take note of is that Divi does not work with WordPress’s default Gutenberg editor. Instead, it includes its own editor, also called Divi, that is part of the package. However, you can still use other page builders like Elementor or Beaver Builder, if you prefer.

All Divi templates come with pre-made shop and blog pages, which is great. Unfortunately, there’s a small drawback: the templates don’t include any pre-designed individual product pages and blog post templates.

But this isn’t a major issue, because if you don’t want to create those pages on your own, you can easily import one of Divi’s many single-page designs. In fact, there are over 1,900 single-page designs to choose from—in addition to 260+ complete website design packs!

Here are two of the best Divi templates for selling art in your own WordPress shop:

    5. Fashion

Fashion was initially made for fashion designers, but it also serves as a stunning theme for artist eCommerce websites. It includes everything you can possibly dream of: a home page, landing pages, about page, contact page, gallery, shop, and blog. What more could you ask for?

The home page is perfect for showing off a large image of your best artwork, complete with a title and the story behind it. Below this, you can highlight your most popular products from your online store. When a visitor clicks on an image, they are taken directly to the sales page. Great for high conversions!

The gallery page is rather simple. It displays your work in a tiled gallery that allows visitors to view each piece in full size with a click. However, it lacks some features like lightbox capabilities, social sharing options, and image titles.

Still, if you like the overall template—especially for its well-designed shop, you can easily edit the gallery page to get a more sophisticated portfolio gallery.

    6. Jeweler

Jeweler is another favorite of mine to sell your art on WordPress. The template comes with a sleek design and soft colors that can be easily tailored to match your artist brand.

The pre-designed home page features a huge hero image at the top, with a link to your art shop. A short about section allows you to introduce yourself and say what you do. There’s enough room to display your products and even the possibility to let people book a one-on-one consultation session with you.

The shop page includes a number of premade products that are waiting for you to be customized. There’s a ready-made discount offer to help you drive conversions and a section to add customer reviews.

All pages are beautifully designed, making them an ideal pick for visually focused artists. Many of the pages include parallax effects that grab the attention of the viewer and direct it directly to your artwork.

The template is complete with landing pages, blog, shop, contact page with contact form and Google maps integration. The about page provides space for your artist bio and statement, plus a video to show yourself working in your studio.

A newsletter opt-in is always visible in the footer; all you need to do is offer an attractive lead magnet to grow your email list!

    Breakthrough Pro

Breakthrough Pro, developed by StudioPress, is a minimalist WordPress theme with a sleek design and modern layout. It incorporates plenty of white space and bold colors to attract attention without overwhelming the viewer. The layout ensures easy navigation, allowing visitors to quickly access important links and view your products and services with just one click.

Breakthrough Pro is fast-loading, fully responsive, and SEO-friendly. It is ready for eCommerce and compatible with the native Gutenberg WordPress editor as well as other popular page builders.

Unlike the other themes on this list, Breakthrough Pro is built on the Genesis Framework. This framework serves as a central platform that provides all the features and functions offered by WordPress. With Genesis, you can be confident that your website is secure, regularly updated, and equipped with the latest tools and design widgets.

The Genesis Framework requires a one-time payment of around US$60, which allows you to use the theme on an unlimited number of websites and includes unlimited updates and premium support for one year. There is also a 60-day money-back guarantee in case you are not satisfied with your purchase.

To ensure you start off on the right foot, I have selected two WordPress themes that are excellent choices for selling your art:

    7. Essence Pro

Essence Pro is a beautifully designed, multi-purpose WordPress theme perfect for showcasing and selling your art. The home page allows you to flaunt your best artwork prominently at the top, complete with a text overlay for adding a title and a brief description of the image. There are also two buttons to guide visitors to either your store or additional information.

The theme comes with a variety of pre-made page layouts, including contact, author, and landing pages, as well as blog and shop pages. Unlike Divi, Essence Pro also includes templates for individual blog posts and product pages. With WooCommerce pre-installed, the shop is ready to go live right after installing the template.

Since it’s an eCommerce theme, there is no dedicated portfolio gallery. If you wish to have one, you can download Genesis’ free custom blocks, which include a gallery widget for creating a portfolio page.

    8. Revolution Pro

Revolution Pro is another top choice for best WordPress themes for selling art from StudioPress’s product range. This template allows you to feature a large image of your artwork at the top of the home page, complete with a title and a brief description. A prominent call to action encourages visitors to either learn more or head straight to the sales page.

Similar to the previous StudioPress theme, Revolution Pro comes fully equipped with everything you need, including a fully operational shop and blog, with ready-made templates for individual products and posts. Additionally, the theme includes a dozen sample pages for various needs, such as contact and about page for your artist bio, services, and more.

However, there is a downside: like the earlier theme, Revolution Pro doesn’t include a pre-designed portfolio section. To compensate, you can either customize one of the included sample pages or create a portfolio page from scratch, as I already mentioned above.

    Neve

Neve is a widely used multi-purpose WordPress theme with over 300K active users. It’s ideal for small businesses, agencies, bloggers, e-commerce shops with WooCommerce storefront, and personal portfolio sites. With advanced eCommerce features like product view, floating cart, off-canvas shop filters, and a wishlist, you have everything you need for successful art sales.

Additionally, the pro version offers various checkout page layouts, six WooCommerce starter templates, and unlimited design freedom through Elementor integration. Neve is fully responsive, ensuring that your artist website looks great on any device. It’s easy to customize and works great with the Gutenberg block editor, as well as popular page builders like BrizyBeaver BuilderVisual ComposerSiteOrigin, and Divi.

The theme is lightweight, SEO-optimized, and features a minimalist design, allowing it to load quickly and helping your website achieve high rankings in Google’s search results.

Developed by Theme Isle, Neve offers over 100+ starter templates that are easy to import. Currently, the offer includes more than a dozen templates that are perfect for creatives. In my opinion, the following template belongs to the best WordPress themes for selling art:

    9. Jewellery Shop

Jewellery Shop is one of my recommendations from Neve’s collection of WordPress themes for selling art. As the name implies, this template is perfect for creatives—be it jewelry designers or other types of artists. It showcases your creations beautifully on the homepage as well as on the shop and product pages.

Each product page features an image carousel that allows potential customers to view your products, e.g. art prints, from multiple angles, aiding them in making their purchase decision.

→ How To Display Art Prints For Sale Online [*6 Tips That Work*]

The pre-designed about page is ideal for introducing yourself as the artist. It provides space for your artist bio and statement and includes the option to display a video of you working in your studio, along with your best artworks. The news page can be easily transformed into an art blog, as it comes with a featured post grid and templates for individual blog posts.

Since the Jewellery Shop template is designed for selling products, it doesn’t include a specific portfolio page. However, you can use the shop page to display your portfolio or create your own gallery using the native Gutenberg editor or other page builder. There are many options, because you can use any popular gallery widget from Elementor, Beaver Builder, Visual Composer, and so on!

    Shoppe

Shoppe is a versatile WooCommerce WordPress theme from Themify. The theme is easy to customize, and therefore also a great pick for newbies wha are about to launch their own art business website.

Shoppe has all advanced eCommerce features you need to make your business a success: product search, quick look lightbox, ajax shopping cart, wishlist, product image zoom, and much more. In addition, shoppers can sort products according to price, color, or category using the integrated product filter.

Thanks to the theme’s very own Themify Builder, you can customize all product pages and the overall store layout with an easy drag-and-drop editor.

Shoppe is a premium WordPress theme that you can get for US$59. For more advanced features, the Themify Master Club membership gives you access to Shoppe and other themes, starting at US$89 per year.

    10. Fashion

Fashion is a great WordPress template for artists because it makes it easy to create a user-friendly shopping environment and eye-catching display of your works. Ideal conditions to attract art buyers and make sales!

The design is clean with a white background and bold color effects that can be easily adapted to your artist brand. All important pages are linked in the main menu, just like your social media profiles and a quick search bar to help visitors find what they are looking for.

Even though the template was originally made for fashion designers, it’s a great pick for any visual artist. The home page is designed to put some of your best images on display. Paired with beautiful motion effects, it grabs the attention of the viewers and directs them directly to your shop.

The shop itself is fully functional and equipped with a number of sample products that you just need to replace with your own offerings. There’s even a wishlist for visitors to bookmark their favorite artworks they are planning to buy in your store!

    Ultra

Ultra is another WooCommerce WordPress theme from Themify’s product range. The theme is highly versatile and customizable, with lots of modern design elements.

Ultra allows you to launch a full-blown eCommerce site, with everything you need for your art store. There are 60+ pre-designed demo sites that you can import with one click. All you need to do is replace the content—and you are ready to start selling!

All Ultra WordPress templates come with multiple header styles, mega menus, 15 pre-set color options, and video backgrounds—to just name a few of the included features. Of course, you can custom-style your pages using the Themify page builder.

Just like Shoppe, you’ll get Ultra with a premium plan starting at US$59. This includes 12 builder add-ons and one year of support. For US$89, you can upgrade your plan and get access to other Themify themes, including Shoppe—the above option on this list.

    11. Fashion

Fashion is an excellent WordPress theme for selling art if you choose to use Ultra, just like the template of the same name we talked about above. In fact, the Ultra Fashion template is very similar to the Shoppe Fashion template.

The home page design is optimal for displaying the best images of your portfolio. Products are already linked to the shop and there are enough text placeholders to say some words about yourself or the story behind your works.

The minimalist design with white background and a few color elements can be easily matched any artist brand. The pre-designed about page is just perfect to add your artist bio and some samples of your portfolio.

The shop is complete with products, product pages, descriptions, and the possibility for your customers to add reviews. For easy navigation, shoppers can filter products according to price, popularity, most recent, etc. at one click on the drop-down filter.

    Hestia

Hestia is a WordPress theme with eCommerce functionality that particularly caters to small businesses. It’s part of Theme Isle’s collection and one of their most popular themes with stellar ratings.

Hestia is optimized for speed and performance, ensuring fast loading times and an optimal user experience. The design is modern and sleek. Still, it has all essential features necessary for a powerful WordPress eCommerce site.

Besides seamless WooCommerce integration, Hestia also works with page builders like Elementor, Beaver Builder, WPBakery, and Visual Composer to customize the site to your liking.

Hestia comes with multiple layout options, several header styles, navigation menus, and two different WooCommerce layouts to choose from for your online store.

The basic version of Hestia is available for free. Pricing for the premium version with advanced features and customer support starts at US$99 per year.

    12. Hestia Pro

Hestia Pro—if you want to create an eCommerce site with Hestia, you don’t need to look any further than their default template. It has everything you can possibly desire for your artist website.

Apart from a ready-to-use web store, you’ll even get a portfolio section to showcase your art! That already makes it an awesome choice for artists. But there’s more.

At the top of the home page, you’ll find a premade image slider to display your best works—the ideal way to receive visitors on your website. Apart from about and contact pages, you’ll even get a blog, complete with post templates.

The shop itself has all advanced features to ensure a pleasant shopping experience. Product categories, price filters, and different sorting options help navigating your online offer. The product sales pages are so beautifully designed that they could as well serve as your portfolio gallery!
