Pop Surrealism, or Lowbrow Art, is an art movement that developed around Los Angeles, California, in the late 1970s.
Initially, Lowbrow was a revolt against political and social norms and against the academic conceptualism of the 1960s. The goal of the movement was to rise out of convention. In this respect, it was very much like surrealism.
Some of the leading pop surrealism artists are Robert Williams, Mark Ryden, Audrey Kawasaki, and Tara McPherson.

Pop surrealism or lowbrow is also the art genre where I humbly range in my own digital creations. Moreover, another characteristic of pop surrealism artists was that the great majority of artists used to be self-taught, which I am myself, too.
