What exactly is difficult about dating an artist?
First of all, dating an artist means dating their art, too. For most artists, creating art is a calling. They are passionate about it and often consider it their life purpose. This can leave you feeling like you always come second, even though your artsy lover might be totally passionate about you, too, and has given you the first place in their heart!
Furthermore, artists tend to be loners. Art-making in itself requires them to spend countless hours alone in their studio. But they might also have moments when they feel like withdrawing completely from the world around them. Those phases may last a couple of days up to several weeks. You never know.
If you try to pull them out of their chosen seclusion, you might be met with resistance. Obviously, this lack of presence and attention may make it difficult to date an artist, because it will take a toll on the relationship, in the long run.
Apart from that, artists are complex individuals with high emotional sensitivity who perceive all the subtleties in their environment that other people might miss. That causes them to react differently.
You might not understand where the sudden mood swings or depressive episodes of your partner come from, if you don’t feel the same way. That’s why artists are often hard to figure out and seem weird to the people around them.
