Words have power. Thus, the way you think or talk to yourself is powerful. Neuroscientists found that our brain cannot distinguish between thoughts and reality, if you just keep thinking one thing often enough. This is also the way visualization and manifestation work.
So if you spend your day thinking negative things and being self-critical about your art, it might feel like someone else criticized you in real life. If you keep telling yourself that you will never be a good enough artist, chances are you will never be a good enough artist…
Fortunately, you can also do it the opposite way!
In point of fact, affirmations trigger the reward system in the brain. The cerebral areas that respond to affirmations are the same that respond to food you like to eat or music you love to listen to. Used regularly, positive affirmations can alter the neural responses in the brain, promoting positive traits like optimism and confidence.
Cards with positive affirmations are great because you can use them in a number of ways. For example, you can shuffle the cards and randomly draw a card from the deck. Place the card somewhere you see it often and make the affirmation you picked the motto of your day. Contemplate how it makes you feel and how you react to it.
I personally have made positive affirmations an integral part of my creative routine. Every time before I get to create something, I pick three or four cards from my stack of Printable Cards with Positive Affirmations for Artists and read them aloud. The moment I’ve done that, I can feel my spirits uplift and I am able to start my work on a positive note!
